SUDOKU

Unfortunately, the Sudoku program, announced last month, would not install on most computers. There was an element missing. I am working on this and will re-release once I work out how to install the missing piece. Of course, the program works just fine on all ISYS computers becasue all our computers have ths piece installed so you can imagine our disappointment to discover that the program installation failed in the field. I am left to imagine yours!

HINTS and TIPS

To print a Landranger map, set the scale to, say, 100 pixels per km. To set the scale, right click and select from the popup menu. This setting will show more mapping on the screen.

Now right click on the map, in the centre of your selected area. A popup Print Box appears. Select the scale (now a representative fraction eg 1:25,000) and whether you want a portrait or landscape map.

The map on screen now has a diamond with a black and yellow edge to show the centre and a rectangle outlined in black and yellow to show the A4 area that will be printed.

You can drag this rectangle to select the exact area to print.

When you are happy, click "Print".

Note that the screen scale and the print scale are independendent.

The screen scale is quoted in pixels per kilometre. This is very useful as the number gets bigger with an increased scale. 200 pixels/km is bigger than 100 pixels/km. The units are unusual, but we think that quoting the scale in this way is the best for computer screens.

If you would like to display the actual scale or representative fraction, the these can be switched on in Initialize | Preferences.

Walk long and safely
