JULY SPECIAL This month only, we are offering The High Alps for just £14.99 instead of the usual £29.99. The photographs are stunning and the video clips give a real feeling of the Alps. The program is worth it just for these features but there are routes for all the 4000m peaks and many others. The spidering technique is unique to ISYS. The routes, photographs and video clips are by Martin Moran whose knowledge of the Alps is deep and current. This is the full program that we are offering at this price. This price is set so that everyone will take advantage of the offer. If you have any Edition 6 program below v6.2.0.61, The High Alps will upgrade you to this level. To take advantage of this price, visit our website at www.isysoutdoors.com. CALL TO ARMS Earlier this year, I asked you to campaign against the planning application to erect a permanent cross on the hills above Dalmally in Argyll. As a direct result of the campaign, I hear that the application is now withdrawn and that the temporary cross will be removed next week. Thanks to everyone who helped to keep our hills free of man-made objects and to preserve the feeling of wilderness. KENNETH HOUGH I am please to tell you that Kenneth Hough (to rhyme with enough) has joined ISYS as Sales Manager. The High Alps special is his initiative, so support it well! "If you meet others during your ramblings, please feel free to recommend ISYS Outdoors products," Kenny. Well that's straightforward! VISTA We now have many users working quite happily on Vista. The instructions to let ISYS Software work are in the Yahoo site under Files. To visit the Yahoo site: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hillwalker You do need to join. This is to keep those who post unsuitable messages at bay. ISYS OUTDOORS WEBSITE AND EMAIL It has been an interesting couple of cyber months. Our ISPs interrupted the supply of both emails and website at the end of June. Effective immediately, the only addresses which will work to isysoutdoors (dot) com are support (at) .. sales (at) .. enquiries (at) .. info (at) .. We hoped that a side benefit might be the reduction of spam but the effect is not great. DID YOU KNOW? If you run ISYS Software on a Mac that you still get the 3-D maps? Only ISYS allows you to plot directly on a 3-D map? (Now there's a claim!) Only ISYS allows you to drag waypoints over a 3-D map? ISYS Route Cards work in British Grid, Irish Grid, Swiss Grid, UTM and Lat/Long? ISYS Route Cards work in Date and Time allowing routes lasting more than 24 hours? That you can split and join Routes, select waypoints and nudge them as a group? HINTS AND TIPS When creating a route, how do you know when you will create a new point and when you will drag an existing point? The answer lies in the cursor. When you are close to an existing waypoint or way arrow, the cursor becomes a four-headed arrow. You can drag waypoints or way arrows when this cursor shows. Interestingly, you can drag waypoints and way arrows on all maps, even crinkle maps. Only ISYS software lets you do this and even create new routes on crinkle maps. How do you print a map at an angle, for example with magnetic or true north to the top? Create a Crinkle Map of the area, right click on it and select Show Crinkle Controls. Put the sun overhead (90 degrees), set the angle of tilt to 90 degrees and set the angle of rotation to your choice. Crinkle Maps are more than just Crinkle Maps! The Crinkle Control Panel, like most panels in the ISYS Software can be dragged around. The Apply, Cancel and Done buttons have the standard Windows meanings: Apply - do the job and keep the panel open Cancel - close the panel without applying the latest changes Done - do the job and close the panel. Apply followed by Cancel is therefore the same as Done. Walk long and safely. Iain R White ISYS OUTDOORS www.isysoutdoors.com support (at) isysoutdoors (dot) com 0845 166 5701 0141-943 1533 HUMOUR? A man wrote to a small hotel in a Midwest town he planned to visit on his vacation. He wrote, "I would very much like to bring my dog with me. He is well groomed and very well behaved. Would you be willing to permit me to keep him in my room with me at night?" The reply came from the hotel owner. It said, "I've been operating this hotel for many years. In all that time, I've never had a dog steal towels, bedclothes, silverware or pictures off the walls. I've never had to evict a dog in the middle of the night for being drunk and disorderly, and I've never had a dog run out on a hotel bill. Yes, indeed, your dog is welcome at my hotel. And if your dog will vouch for you, you're welcome to stay here, too." A high school teacher wanted to demonstrate the evils of alcohol to his young students. He produced a glass of water, a glass of whisky, and two worms. "Now class, observe closely," he said as he dropped one of the worms into the glass of water. The worm wriggled about in the water, perfectly happy. The teacher dropped the second worm into the glass of whisky. The worm swam around for a moment, then seized up and curled, quickly sinking to the bottom of the glass, dead as a doornail. "Now, what can be learned from this experiment?" the teacher asked his students. After a pause, a young man stood up and said, "Well, if you drink whisky, you'll never get worms." (The same story can be told using Irish Whiskey. Here we are using Scotch Whisky.) (Dead as a doornail? I though phrase was "As dead as a dodo". Any thoughts?)
