DISCONTINUATION OF SUPPORT While ISYS will always honour the 90 days' free support, Support for versions 1 to 4 is discontinued. Support for version 5 will cease soon. The only Supported Versions will then be v6.0, v6.1 and v6.2. HOW TO GET THE MOST FROM ISYS OUTDOORS SUPPORT Spam does make it difficult to provide a great email support service but following these simple rules will help. First is always but your User Number in the Subject line. Your User Number is shown in the Subject line of this email. Second, please use the correct email address. These are: info@isysoutdoors.com - for general queries, "Which program do I need to ..." "What upgrade options do I have ..." enquiries@isysoutdoors.com - as above support@isysoutdoors.com - Registration and support for existing users sales@isysoutdoors.com - Sales only. "Please send me the following ..." Please do not use my personal email - you are unlikely to get past the spam filter. Please don't reply to this email as all messages (Out of Office replies, Mailbox over quota etc) are automatically deleted. Don't puzzle over a problem for days before asking. On the other hand, please don't ask ISYS instead of reading the manual. We run a support desk not a training desk! A good guideline is to spend up to an hour on a problem and if it is unresolved, then email or call. Please don't do both; it is very hard to tie up telephone requests and email requests. HILL NEWS To celebrate the 150 anniversary of the birth of Sir Hugh Munro, The Munro Society is encouraging anyone wishing to pay tribute to Sir Hugh to climb a Munro or Munros over the weekend 14-15 October or on Monday 16 October, his actual birthday. Many Munro Society members will be on Dris, the Munro closest to Sir Hugh's house at Lindertis. If you are on a Munro at that time, The Munro Society would like to hear from you. Dris is the Gaelic for a bramble. Check their website www.TheMunroSociety.com for details of this and other events. If you have completed all the Munros then you are eligible to join the Munro Society whether or not you have registered with the Clerk of the List. COMPETITION TO WIN MAPWISE v6.2 The competition proved very popular last time, so here is another chance to win a MapWise Standard v6.2 with all the Own Drawing features. Just answer this simple question and send to competition@isysoutdoors.com. Exactly how many metres is 3,000 feet? Closing date is midnight on Friday 15 September 2006. Don't forget to put your User Number in the subject line! Distinctive hills above this height, in Scotland, are called Munros. Tops are also above this height and are usually subsidiary summits of Munros. HINTS AND TIPS When printing maps, the area to be printed is shown as a black and yellow outlined rectangle with a similar diamond at the centre. As the print scale and the screen scale are independent, set the screen scale low (fewer pixels per kilometre) to see the whole area. The rectangle is initially centred on where you right clicked to bring up the menu but you can drag the print area to where you want it. If you do not recognize where the Vector Map is showing, Zoom Out. One Zoom Out is worth three Zoom Ins. Pass the cursor over Hills, Trig Points, Huts and Youth Hostels to see the name and other information. To find out the name of a line (eg a road or railway) or a polygon (eg a loch, llyn, tarn or island) click where there is a change in direction. When making a Route, you may or may not want the program to search its database and name the point for you. All this is controlled by using the Magic Eye, the button in the centre of the Scroll Panel with the square with squiggly lines round it. Don't forget to visit our Yahoo Group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hillwalker to share experience of hills with other users. There is no need to change your email address when you change provider. Prison Carpenter Several years ago, Andy was sentenced to prison. During his stay, he got along well with the guards and all his fellow inmates. The warden saw that deep down, Andy was a good person and made arrangements for Andy to learn a trade while doing his time. After 3 years, Andy was recognized as one of the best carpenters in the local area. Often he would be given a weekend pass to do odd jobs for the citizens of the community, and he always reported back to prison before Sunday night was over. The warden was thinking of remodelling his kitchen and in fact had done much of the work himself. But he lacked the skills to build a set of kitchen cupboards and a large counter top which he had promised his wife. So he called Andy into his office and asked him to complete the job for him. But, alas, Andy refused. He told the warden, "Gosh, I'd really like to help you but counter fitting is what got me into prison in the first place." Oh dear... Thank you Moira of Dumbartonshire for these gems.
