Millennium Support

"It is a fool who learns from his own experience.

A wise man learns from other people's."

I have asked several 'other people' how they fared at the last millennium, but none could remember. In desperation, I looked back at our records and discovered that there was not a lot recorded for December 999. Thinking that there might be some similarity with 1900, I tried December 1899, but again records are sparse to the point of being non-existent. I therefore conclude that being neither wise nor foolish, I have no idea what the millennium bug will bring. The first few days of January, normally a holiday here, will be spent, at best on stand-by for our corporate customers; at worst up to our oxters in code. In any event support for the Hillwalker Series will be 'sparse' until 10 January 2000 when we hope to restore a normal service.

Here are the Isys support arrangements:

FAQs

1. What does FAQ stand for?

A. Frequently asked question.

2. I have an upgrade but no Serial Number. What do I do?

A. An upgrade is an upgrade to an existing program so just use the previous Serial Number.

3. I have both the Corbetts and The Munros, which should I install first and which second?

A. It probably doesn't matter as both sequences are designed to work. If you have the choice then it is probably better to install the Corbetts and then integrate the Munros. Either way, you should run the Munros program with the Munros CD in, as this is a very slightly later program.

4. Can I just copy my six Level 1 log files into the Level 3 Munros?

A. No, because the hill numbers have changes a bit, especially with sub-sections and the hills furth of Scotland. Instead use the Import Old Log File item on the File menu. This will sort out all the hill number issues as it goes along. As a general rule, files cannot be copied across levels.

5. What does furth mean?

A. Outwith! OK, so both of these words are more usual in Scotland than furth of (outwith) Scotland. In spite of the explanation, hopefully the meaning is now clear.

6. What is a Level?

A. It is the first part of the version number. Version 1.0a, 1.1 and 1.2 are all level 1. Version 2.0 and 2.1 are both level 2. The Level Number changes if the upgrade is significant.

Thank you all for your support and encouragement over the past few years. Without your help there can be no Hillwalker Series.

Finally, have a happy Christmas and great, bug-free New Year.
